The Pelion is an extraordinary region of Greece. In a small area this peninsula in the Aegean Sea offers one of the most diverse landscapes in Greece: high mountains, steep coasts, lush vegetation, a lovely gulf coast, impressive mountain villages and many wonderful beaches.

The entire peninsula is covered with lush greenery. The mountain roads often lead through through thick deciduous forests and past springs and streams – ideal for hiking and cycling. Even a ski area is located nearby in the roughly 1620 m high Pelion mountain range, after which the peninsula is named.

The local communities are also special: there are many very beautiful villages, often located on the sloping mountainsides, almost all of which are built with walls and roofs made of natural stone - typical to the architecture of the area. Almost every village has a beautiful central village square shaded by plantain trees. Among the villages most worth visiting are Milies, Visitza, Lafkos as well as Makrinitsa and Portaria situated on the mountainside above the port city of Volos.

GREAT FOOD:
STARTERS APLENTY & MUCH MORE

Whether in the squares of the mountain villages or in one of the taverns directly on the beach: you can eat countless variations of excellent foods at reasonable prices: The region is know for its starters - many of them vegetarian - its fresh fish and meat prepared on a grill or skewer, as well oven-cooked traditional dishes. You can become familiar with a good selection of these if you simply order the local Tsiporo – a local brandy. A plate of snacks – "Meze" – accompanies every schnapps so the conversations become lively and festive – and after a few you leave the the restaurant happy, well-fed and perhaps a bit tipsy.

AT THE DOOR
OF THE SPORADES

The archipelago of the Sporades, known for its beauty, can be reached regularly by boat from Volos, but also from southern Pilion. The main island of Skiathos is nearby, only about 4 nautical miles from Platanias. If you want to leave the tranquil tranquility of Pelion for a short time, Skiathos is the place for you. Here you will find the beautiful island capital with beautiful buildings, quaint streets, and the hustle and bustle of bars, cafes and shops. Skopelos and Alonnisos are considered to be true pearls ni the region and are somewhat more exclusive and serene than Skiathos. All the Islands of the Sporades are known for their lush greenery, beautiful bays and crystal clear water. Alonissos has a National Marine Park with unspoiled flora and fauna.
